What is a Powered Lift (VTOL)

A Powered Lift Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) Endorsement upgrades your Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) so you operate powered lift aircraft up to 7kg for commercial work. Powered lift platforms offer vertical take off and landing with efficient forward flight, which is why they are used for mapping, linear inspections, large property surveys, and projects that need longer endurance than a multi rotor. This endorsement strengthens your licensing and expands the type of commercial operations you can complete under a ReOC.

Enrollment is instant. Once you join the course you receive access to optional study materials including videos, reading, and reference resources. You can then book yourself into the next available powered lift training day in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth. Droneit holds CASA approval to deliver the entire endorsement in a single day. Many providers split their course across two days, but our approval allows us to complete theory, exam, practical training, and assessment on the same day.

Training days follow a clear structure. The morning session includes a face to face theory class and your written exam. The afternoon includes practical training and your flight assessment. You will train on industry powered lift aircraft such as the Wingtra II, the Trinity F90, or other VTOL systems in our fleet. Instructors focus on aircraft setup, control techniques, emergency procedures, and powered lift operating requirements.

Class sizes are small with a ratio of three students to one instructor. Larger group bookings are available on request. If you need clarification on course dates, availability, or group training options, contact the Droneit team for support.

Remote Pilot Licence Powered Lift Endorsement

A 7kg Powered Lift Endorsement strengthens your credentials as a commercial drone pilot. Many industries now rely on powered lift aircraft for long range mapping, asset inspections, agricultural monitoring, emergency support tasks, and large area surveys. These aircraft deliver longer endurance and higher efficiency compared to traditional multi rotor systems. Companies that hold a ReOC recognise the value of pilots who understand powered lift operations, and they prefer operators who hold an endorsement issued through a certified CASA training provider.

Droneit is a CASA approved drone training school in Australia. Our training meets CASA and insurance requirements and supports the specific knowledge needed to fly powered lift aircraft in commercial environments. The endorsement is an upgrade to your existing RePL and is necessary if you want to work with powered lift systems such as the Wingtra II, Trinity F90, or any other VTOL aircraft up to 7kg. Employers use powered lift drones for major projects in surveying, engineering, construction, utilities, agriculture, and environmental work. A pilot with this endorsement is often prioritised for these roles because the training confirms the pilot understands the operating rules, performance characteristics, safety requirements, and planning steps required for powered lift flights.

Why a Powered Lift Endorsement Has Value

A ReOC holder must ensure every pilot operating under their certificate is endorsed for the aircraft in use. Without the endorsement you are not authorised to fly powered lift aircraft for commercial work. This limits your job opportunities and restricts the types of projects you can accept. Once you hold the endorsement you can complete powered lift missions that require greater range, improved efficiency, and higher data quality. Companies rely on powered lift drones for work that demands accuracy and consistency, and they prefer pilots who show a commitment to proper licensing and training. Holding the endorsement strengthens your professional standing and improves your chances of securing more frequent and better paid work.

    Training with Droneit

Droneit training supports students through a structured pathway that suits new and experienced pilots. Students have noted that our face to face instruction, small class sizes, and practical approach make it easier to understand complex aircraft systems and operating rules. You receive access to optional theory resources after enrollment, then you attend your face to face training day where the instructor guides you through theory, exam, practical flying, and assessment. This approach gives you confidence in your skills and prepares you for safe commercial operations.

Droneit supports commercial pilots across Australia through certified CASA courses, practical training, and clear licensing pathways. We help pilots earn their RePL, obtain endorsements, and progress toward advanced roles within the drone industry. FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions.
  • What is a Powered Lift or VTOL?

A powered lift VTOL aircraft is a drone that lifts off vertically then transitions to forward flight using fixed wings. This design delivers efficient long range performance and stable data capture. Powered lift aircraft are used for large property surveys, long linear inspections, agriculture, environmental work, and projects that need more endurance than a multi rotor. Examples include the Wingtra II and the Trinity F90. Pilots who complete the endorsement gain approval to operate these aircraft up to 7kg for commercial work under a ReOC.

  • Do I need a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) first?

Yes. A Powered Lift VTOL endorsement is added to your existing RePL. The endorsement upgrades your licence so you are legally authorised to fly powered lift aircraft in controlled commercial operations. If you hold a current RePL you can enrol in the endorsement training at Droneit at any time. Enrollment is instant and you can then book into the next available training day.

  • Who needs a Powered Lift VTOL endorsement?

An AROC is an aeronautical radio operator certificate. You will need an AROC as a RPAS operator if you intend to transmit on an aeronautical radio frequency.

You must be 17 years old to obtain an AROC.

  • What is a ReOC and do I need one to fly a Powered Lift VTOL aircraft?

A ReOC is a Remote Operator Certificate issued by CASA. It authorises a business to conduct commercial drone operations and set its own operating procedures. You do not need your own ReOC to fly a powered lift aircraft. You only need the Powered Lift VTOL endorsement added to your RePL. To fly commercially you must operate under a company or employer that holds a ReOC, or you can apply for your own ReOC if you want to run your own operations.

  • Do I need a licence on my own land?

You do not require a RePL if:

    • you own the drone
    • your drone weighs between 100g and 25kg*
    • you - or someone flying on your behalf - are only flying over your own property
    • the drone and land are owned or leased by the same person
    • no money is paid for conducting the flight.

*You can fly a drone weighing up to 150 kg if you (or the person flying on your behalf) holds a RePL.

  • What is an ARN?

An ARN is an Aviation Reference Number issued by CASA. It is your unique aviation identity used for all licence applications, drone registrations, and updates to your RePL or endorsements. Every remote pilot requires an individual ARN. Businesses that want to hold a ReOC or register drones under a company name also apply for an organisation ARN.

  • RBKP - Aircraft knowledge and operation principles

This unit explains how powered lift aircraft work and why they behave differently to multi rotor and fixed wing systems. Students learn how lift is created in vertical and forward flight, how the aircraft transitions between modes, and how motors, wings and control surfaces interact with the flight controller. The unit covers performance, endurance, payload considerations, stability, aircraft limitations, and the common hazards associated with powered lift operations. Students also learn the operating rules set by CASA, pre flight planning requirements and emergency procedures specific to powered lift aircraft.

  • RP1 - Control on ground, launch, hover and landing

This unit teaches the basic handling skills required before and after transition. Students learn safe ground control, pre flight checks, arming procedures, vertical take off, stable hovering, directional control at low height and accurate vertical landing. These skills form the foundation for all powered lift flying.

  • RP2 - Transition to and from vertical flight

This unit focuses on the most important phase of powered lift flying, the transition. Students learn how the aircraft moves from vertical flight into forward wing supported flight, how pitch and control inputs change, and how the flight controller manages this movement. The unit also teaches how to transition back into vertical mode for landing and what to do if the transition becomes unstable.

  • RP3 - Climb, cruise and descent

This unit covers controlled forward flight. Students learn how to climb to altitude, maintain level efficient cruise, track accurately along survey lines, and descend safely. Forward flight handling is essential for mapping, linear inspections and large area surveys.

  • RP4 - Advanced manoeuvres

This unit teaches higher accuracy flight tasks used in real commercial operations. Students complete controlled turns, smooth approaches, track management, directional adjustments and other manoeuvres that strengthen confidence and precision. This prepares pilots for demanding jobs where accuracy and consistency matter.

  • RP5 - Manage abnormal situations at altitude and near the ground

This unit teaches how to identify and respond to abnormal or emergency situations in both vertical and forward flight. Students learn how to manage instability, unexpected drift, transition faults, automation issues, wind effects and other in flight problems. The goal is to ensure pilots can recognise issues early, remain in control and recover the aircraft safely.
