What is an Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC)?

The Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) is the CASA qualification that authorises you to transmit on VHF aeronautical radio frequencies for ground-based, ground-to-air communication. If your role requires you to speak on airband radio from the ground, an AROC is the national credential you need.
Droneit's AROC course is built for people who work around aircraft and airspace: RPAS/drone pilots operating near controlled or restricted airspace and helicopter landing zones, airport and airline ground crew, helicopter landing officers, landing zone coordinators, loadmasters, rescue swimmers, hoist crew, and emergency services personnel (police, fire, ambulance, SES and surf lifesaving). You will learn radiotelephone technique, standard phraseology, airspace awareness and emergency procedures so you can communicate clearly and legally during normal duties.
Training is online-first. Complete optional study materials and practice quizzes at your pace, attend a compulsory half-day live online classroom, then book your final CASA exam in most capital cities when you are ready. Free extensions are available and exam resits are free. Successful graduates receive a Droneit Certificate of Completion plus their national CASA AROC qualification by email. You have 12 months to complete the course.
RPAS operators who also need a commercial remote pilot pathway often combine AROC with a <7kg Remote Pilot Licence (RePL). Genuine airband radios for training and operations are available through Droneit as an authorised Icom dealer.
