Being a beginner drone pilot comes with a bunch of challenges, from time-consuming admin work to understanding how to use drones to capture exactly what the client wants. At Droneit, we are all about empowering people and fostering great relationships with our team. A few weeks ago, Sam joined Droneit as part of his school vacation work experience program. Here is a glimpse into his week and his key takeaways.
During my time at Droneit, I had the opportunity to understand the life of a drone pilot. My week was spent flying drones and completing admin work like emails and editing videos. On my first day, I handled admin tasks relating to emails, banking and invoicing. From the second day onwards, I was busy flying drones.
I worked closely with Lee on different projects. Since CASA regulations are strict, I had to learn the ins and outs of flying drones safely. I learned about scanning the skies and picked up some theory about flight and aviation. Beside the necessary admin work, flying drones was fun and helped me create visual content from a higher perspective.
I also became much more proficient with drone flying apps such as DJI GO 4 and DroneDeploy.
From being a personal assistant for a week, the skills I learned, like banking and invoicing, will help me through life and give me a head start on running a business. In the future I would like to pursue a career in filming and video editing, and flying drones will let me capture unique views and scenes in new places.
My time at Droneit was informative and fun. It gave me a much broader idea of how a business works, how Droneit looks after its customers and students, and how strict CASA rules shape day-to-day operations. The only real challenge was the paperwork nobody else wanted to do!
